Kane County Federal Pretrial Custody Records

To find someone released from federal pretrial custody serving Kane County, follow the federal court case and the detention facility named in that case. The U.S. Marshals Service manages federal defendants after a court orders custody, but it does not provide a public name locator. A person may be held in contracted state or local space far from Kane County. Release, acquittal, or delivery to the federal prison system follows the court’s authority. The correct federal release search pairs the docket with the receiving facility and uses the BOP locator only after federal prison designation or for past BOP custody.

Kane Federal Pretrial Release Routes

A federal defendant connected to Kane County can enter USMS responsibility after a federal court remands the person, which means the court orders custody while the case proceeds. USMS may place the defendant in a contracted jail. No federal pretrial detention center was identified in Kane County, and a physical stay in a county or regional jail does not convert the case into ordinary county custody.

The route ends in one of several ways. The court may order release or the defendant may be acquitted. A convicted person may be delivered to the Bureau of Prisons after sentencing and designation. Another authority may also have a lawful hold. Each event needs its own source: the federal docket for authority, the detention facility for physical movement, USMS for custody routing, and BOP after designation.

Important: USMS has no public inmate-name locator. An empty BOP search cannot prove that a federal pretrial defendant was released.

Confirm Kane Federal Pretrial Release

Start with the federal case number when possible. The docket identifies detention and release orders, hearings, judgment, and sentence. It may also identify counsel or the court clerk, who can help route a public record question. If the detention facility is named, contact that facility for current location or departure information within its disclosure rules.

Use this custody chain:

  1. Locate the federal docket. Match the defendant, case number, and district before relying on an order.
  2. Read the latest custody order. Distinguish detention, conditional release, acquittal, sentencing, and commitment.
  3. Identify the physical facility. Use a docket entry, counsel, the clerk, or the appropriate USMS district office.
  4. Ask the facility about movement. Request the date and destination where public information is available.
  5. Check BOP only when appropriate. Use it after sentencing and designation, or to verify historical BOP release.
  6. Resolve later supervision separately. Read the federal judgment and contact the appropriate U.S. Probation Office for public routing.

The Kane County released inmate lookup separates this federal path from Kane County Jail, Utah corrections, VINE, and ICE searches.

Kane Federal Custody Record Sources

No single record proves every stage. A federal detention order proves legal authority but may not show the current contracted bed. A jail movement record can prove departure from that building but not the end of USMS responsibility. A BOP result begins to matter after federal prison designation.

SourceWhat it can prove
Federal court docketDetention, release conditions, acquittal, judgment, sentence, and commitment orders.
USMS or court routingWhich office or contracted facility may hold the defendant during the federal case.
Physical detention facilityPresence, departure date, or transfer destination when disclosure is permitted.
BOP Inmate LocatorFederal prison location or historical BOP release after the person enters BOP records.
U.S. ProbationPublic routing about federal supervision after custody, subject to disclosure limits.

Match identifiers across sources. A name alone can join the wrong case or wrong Kane County. Use the federal case number, date of birth where lawfully available, register number after BOP entry, and exact order dates.

USMS Kane Custody Limits

The U.S. Marshals Service prisoner-custody description states that USMS responsibility runs from court-ordered custody until acquittal or release, or until delivery to BOP after conviction. USMS can use state and local contract space. This makes the holding building a placement, not the agency that controls the federal case.

There is no public USMS search comparable to the BOP Inmate Locator. Do not send a pretrial inquiry to UDC simply because a contracted bed happens to be in Utah. Do not use Kane County’s non-searchable inmate-information page as a federal locator. Instead, use the court, counsel or clerk, detention facility, and appropriate USMS district office.

Remand
A court order placing the defendant in custody.
Pretrial custody
Detention while the federal charge is pending and before any BOP sentence placement.
Designation
The BOP process that assigns a sentenced federal person to a prison or placement.
Supervised release
A federal court-ordered supervision term that can follow imprisonment.

Kane Jail to Federal Custody

A person can depart Kane County Jail and enter federal custody. The Kane movement record should identify the destination or receiving authority where maintained. That departure must be labeled a transfer, not a community release, unless a positive record shows otherwise. The federal docket then explains the remand or other federal authority.

Call Kane County Jail at 435-644-4914 when the person began in county custody. Ask for current presence and, if absent, the departure date and whether the person transferred. For written proof, use the Kane County Sheriff GRAMA process and request the booking or movement entry with the receiving agency. The sheriff says a response may take up to 10 business days.

That county record does not prove arrival at the federal destination. Confirm the second half through the court, facility, or USMS routing channel. A valid handoff needs both sides when possible.

BOP Search After Kane Transfer

The BOP locator is useful only after a person becomes part of the BOP record system or when checking prior federal imprisonment. A new federal pretrial defendant may not appear because USMS, not BOP, controls that stage. Delay between sentencing, designation, transport, and public locator data can also produce a temporary no-result.

When a BOP record exists, search by register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when available. A name search can be narrowed by race, age, and sex. Read the location and release-date fields together. “IN TRANSIT” is continued custody. A Community Corrections Management listing remains a BOP-linked placement. A past date with location “RELEASED” means out of BOP custody, not necessarily off supervised release or outside every other authority.

The dedicated Federal Bureau of Prisons release page covers those locator fields in depth. It should not replace the court and USMS path for a pretrial defendant.

Kane Federal Custody Contacts

No federal detention facility address or USMS public locator number specific to Kane County was established in the research. Publishing the Kane County Jail address as though it were a federal facility would be misleading. Use the federal court record to identify the district, then route the inquiry to the clerk, counsel, detention facility, or that district’s USMS office.

Federal pretrial custody routing
USMS Prisoner Operations
Public name locator: none
Physical facility: confirm from the federal case or USMS district
BOP locator: later-stage or historical federal prison search

If the person was last known at Kane County Jail, the jail information line can address the county side of the movement. It cannot certify later federal location or release. No hours should be invented for a federal records counter that was not identified.

Read Negative Federal Search Results

A no-result means only “not found in this system at this time.” In BOP, it may indicate pretrial USMS custody, a record mismatch, delay before designation, custody outside BOP, or no BOP involvement. In a county system, absence may reflect transfer or the lack of a public roster. Neither outcome proves release.

Positive dated evidence is stronger. Use a federal release order, a facility departure record with destination, a later BOP entry, or a BOP record marked RELEASED with a past release date. Then read the federal judgment for any supervised-release term. This layered method reflects Kane County’s local reality: the relevant federal bed may be outside the county and the controlling records may sit in several systems.

A negative BOP search during the pretrial stage is expected and does not disprove federal custody. Preserve the federal case number, remand or release order, USMS movement information, and the name of any receiving detention facility. If a sentence later places the person in BOP, the federal register number and BOP location can connect the later record to the earlier Kane County case. If the court instead orders release, use that signed order with confirmation from the custodian that processing was completed.
